π― Challenges can be a great way to keep you accountable and to motivate you. β
β
π However, for most people setting a time-specific challenge won’t provide long-lasting, sustainable results. β
β
βοΈ After completing a challenge, a lot of people return to old habits, abandoning the new healthier ones theyβve built.
β
π These short-term challenges are often centred around extrinsic motivation, which results in your motivation being driven by reward, praise, or reaching the finish line. β
β
π Once youβve received one of these things, motivation diminishes. β
β
π― At Body Smart we believe intrinsic motivation will take you further in the long term. β
β
πͺ Intrinsic motivation requires you to focus on the habits and systems in place, rather than the end goal. β
β
π Intrinsic motivation refers to behaviour that is driven by internal rewards. The process of enjoying and getting satisfaction from completing the habits that build up to your overall goal. β
β
π To have intrinsic motivation, it is important to refine the systems you have in place to make them easy and enjoyable for you to sustain them. β
β
π @jamesclear, author of Atomic habits, stated, “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”β
β
How you can make your systems more sustainable when it comes to health and fitness? π β
β
β
Move your body by doing an exercise that you enjoyβ
β
β
Don’t restrict foods from your diet. You can still achieve great results by maintaining a well-balanced diet and still enjoying the foods you love β
β
β
Aim to be 1% better every day. Along with your main goal, set smaller, realistic goals along the way.
