💯 Challenges can be a great way to keep you accountable and to motivate you.
📆 However, for most people setting a time-specific challenge won’t provide long-lasting, sustainable results.
⌛️ After completing a challenge, a lot of people return to old habits, abandoning the new healthier ones they’ve built.
🏁 These short-term challenges are often centred around extrinsic motivation, which results in your motivation being driven by reward, praise, or reaching the finish line.
📉 Once you’ve received one of these things, motivation diminishes.
💯 At Body Smart we believe intrinsic motivation will take you further in the long term.
💪 Intrinsic motivation requires you to focus on the habits and systems in place, rather than the end goal.
🙌 Intrinsic motivation refers to behaviour that is driven by internal rewards. The process of enjoying and getting satisfaction from completing the habits that build up to your overall goal.
📈 To have intrinsic motivation, it is important to refine the systems you have in place to make them easy and enjoyable for you to sustain them.
👊 @jamesclear, author of Atomic habits, stated, “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
How you can make your systems more sustainable when it comes to health and fitness? 👇
✅ Move your body by doing an exercise that you enjoy
✅ Don’t restrict foods from your diet. You can still achieve great results by maintaining a well-balanced diet and still enjoying the foods you love
✅ Aim to be 1% better every day. Along with your main goal, set smaller, realistic goals along the way.
